Rise of the Guardians: Too scary for kids?

By | April 2, 2012 | Entertainment

Rise of the Guardians hits theaters on Nov. 21, 2012, which officially makes it a holiday movie, but it might play better for adults than kids. Any time you put the word “army” in the same sentence with “the Easter Bunny,” it makes me wonder.

The story revolves around a scary creature called the Boogieman, who launches an assault on Earth, causing several mythic beings — including Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and others — to team up to stop him. Could be interesting, or could be a little scary for youngsters still young enough to believe in these beings.

The movie is based on the book franchise The Guardians of Childhood by William Joyce, and directed by Peter Ramsey, who worked on Monsters vs. Aliens as Head of Story. It reminds me a little of books like The Giver or, yes, The Hunger Games. Intriguing, but also a little frightening. Good voice cast, though, including Alec Baldwin, Chris Pine, Hugh Jackman, Jude Law, Isla Fisher and Dakota Goyo.

What do you think of the Rise of the Guardians trailer? Does it look like the kind of movie you want to see during the holidays?
