Making time for me: Spa Week sneak peek

When Michelle and Stephanie from the editorial team at Spa Week Daily asked me to join the Hot Mom Spa Squad to help promote Spa Week, experience a facial and write a review of the spa, I thought to myself, “Twist my arm…”

However, I had one dilemma. This was the week before the launch of theMomiverse.com and between final testing of the website, queuing up articles from the contributors, preparing for Easter, dealing with the real estate transaction from hell on a home we’re trying to purchase, and having this serious neck and back pain, I didn’t really have time to fit another appointment on my calendar. Because I was so stressed out and busy, I couldn’t really dedicate any ‘MomMe’ time. While I thought this was a conundrum, it really was as if God were shining a light on me. You know the kind of soft, natural light that makes your skin glow. I realized it was the very thing I needed to take my mind off the stressors and help me re-focus and re-energize myself.

I made a blazing trail to Glow Skin & Body Studio in Phoenix for my Spa Week Sneak Peek. Jackie, Glow’s public relations and media manager, personally called me herself before the appointment to make sure I knew exactly how to get there. Since she had warned me they didn’t have great signage from the street, I paid extra close attention while driving and had no trouble finding their location.

Glow Skin & Body Studio is situated in a medical complex. They’re a holistic health spa and provide the following services:

  • Facials
  • Skin rejuvenation (peels, microdermabrasion, oxygen therapy)
  • Massage
  • Oncology (massage & aesthetics)
  • Acupuncture
  • Docere (“doctor as teacher” program with a naturopathic physician)
  • Enhancements (waxing, makeup and lash/brow tinting)

The spa was recently remodeled and has the most beautiful, wooden barn doors (reminiscent of the owner Jessica’s small home town in Idaho) that slid open to the spa area from the waiting area. The entire staff was friendly, inviting and open to answering my questions.

My aesthetician was Amanda. She’s an adorable gal with the kind of energy and peace that I always look for in an aesthetician. She spent time with me before my appointment talking to me about my skin and asked me what I’d like to focus on. She noted my concerns about using botanically based products and made some recommendations to use a mixture of Éminence and Rhonda Allison products for my facial. I chose the Corrective Peptide Age-Defying Facial, but Amanda customized the products based on my skin type, issues and goals.

For the next hour, or actually much longer than that, Amanda worked her magic and healing touch using a variety of botanically based products that had amazing, but light and natural scents. I can honestly say I have never been so relaxed during a facial and I’ve had quite a few! Amanda also provided me a foot massage. She has a firm but relaxing touch and incorporated what felt like Lomilomi massage.

After the facial and throughout the remainder of the day, I noticed how much brighter my skin appeared and more hydrated my skin felt. After working so hard with my team on the launch of theMomiverse.com and neglecting my “me” time lately, Amanda was able to eliminate my dull, tired skin and give me the glow I’ve been missing.

One of my biggest concerns about any spa visit is whether the staff has the kind of friendly, but peaceful demeanor of Amanda and the rest of the Glow team. When you place yourself in a situation to relax, experience pampering and address skin or other wellness issues, it’s important to work with a skilled and knowledgeable staff. More importantly, it’s important to experience the kind of healing energy that a spa experience provides. This healing energy comes from positive, happy people who are skilled at their craft. Do you really want Debby Downer giving you a facial or massage? You’ll never have to worry about that at Glow Skin & Body Studio. You’ll feel like you died and went to heaven – even if only for an hour or so.

Do you need some serious MomMe time? Is your skin in need of some serious TLC and attention from an expert? If you’re in the metro Phoenix area, I highly recommend Glow Skin & Body Studio for your $50 Spa Week Treatment. If you’re in other parts of the country, you can find a spa and book your spa week treatment at SpaWeek.com.

The Spring 2012 National Spa Week Event is happening April 16th-22nd. To take advantage of a $50 spa treatment, go to SpaWeek.com and search for participating spas in your area, then call the spas directly to book your appointments. You do have time for this and you need it. Making time for Mom is priority number one, so just do it! A happier mom means a happier house. Now go relax!
